Actionscript question that has been driving me crazy!

OK so I'm very new to Flash and Actionscript, as it just started learning.

I wrote a little script that I wanted to use on a client site that people log into.

All I want to do is to be able to pass a variable into the actionscript at runtime. All the script does is animate their name. So for instance I want to be able to pass as a variable into the Actionscript code like &username=Tim and then have it run the animation code on those letters.

But I can't work out how to pass variables into the Flash code. I can do it so the user themselves enters their name in a textbox and then the Flash runs but that's pretty rubbish. So can anyone tell me how to pass variables in? Please!!!

I don't know much about Flash and Actionscript but I'm not sure what you are trying to do is possible... I think Flash is SWF files and these are made when you save the Flash script out of Flash... so can't see how you could then pass data into it?

OK since no one else has replied then I guess it is not possible to pass variables into a Flash script!
